Scandinavian Stars Steal The Spotlight At The 2025 Golden Globes

Although no Skarsgård graced the 2025 Golden Globes red carpet (our bets were on Stellan, given Dune: Part II's nomination, but alas), there was still a strong Scandinavian presence at Hollywood's big night. Not only did Denmark make its mark in the Best Non-English Language Film category, but one Norwegian (and one half-Norwegian) took the stage, and we even got a few unexpected gems involving bona fide legends.
Without further ado, let’s break down the unmissable Scandinavian moments from the 2025 Golden Globes.
Mona Fastvold Takes the Stage as The Brutalist Nabs Best Drama
The Brutalist, co-written by Norwegian filmmaker Mona Fastvold, was the night’s big winner, taking home both Best Drama and Best Director for Brady Corbet, who is Fastvold’s partner in both life and work. As Corbet accepted the final award, Fastvold and their half-Norwegian daughter, Ava, joined him on stage.
The sweetest moment of the night came earlier when Corbet, in his first speech, thanked “Mona, my creative partner and muse,” and sweetly complimented Ava’s stunning tulle dress as she looked on, beaming with emotion.
Isabella Rossellini Remains Red Carpet Royalty
Half-Swedish icon Isabella Rossellini (daughter of the legendary Ingrid Bergman) cemented her status as red carpet royalty in a red lace Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda gown, complete with a dramatic sheer cape. She finished the look with matching red lips, shoes, and a purse. Though she didn’t win Best Supporting Actress for Conclave, she certainly ruled the red carpet. Meanwhile, winner Zoe Saldana shared a delicious tidbit about Rossellini during her acceptance speech: "I had lunch one time at your house, and I thought I had made it already. You’re magic."
The The Girl With The Needle Crew Shows Out
Danish film The Girl With the Needle was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film, and its stars and director certainly didn’t disappoint when it came to making a statement on the red carpet. Indie darling Vic Carmen Sonne stunned in custom Louis Vuitton, while Swedish director Magnus von Horn looked sharp in a Tom Ford jacket. And as for Trine Dyrholm—well, more on that in a moment.
Trine Dyrholm Wears Top-to-Toe Danish Design
Legendary Danish actor Trine Dyrholm, known for always representing Danish design, stayed true to her roots at the Golden Globes. She opted for a one-shouldered sculptural shimmering midnight blue gown by longtime collaborator Soeren le Schmidt. She completed the look with earrings by fellow Dane Vibe Harsløf. Absolutely flawless.
Scandinavian-Adjacent Sebastian Stan Nabs Best Supporting Actor
Alright, bear with me. Sebastian Stan’s win for his excellent performance in A Different Man is a win for Scandinavia. First, the film co-stars Norwegian actor Renate Reinsve. Second, the win gave Stan the chance to shout out The Apprentice, another film he starred in this year, which was directed by Iranian-Danish filmmaker Ali Abbasi. Could Sebastian Stan be a Scandinavian ally? Let's discuss.
