Copenhagen’s It-Girls Are Making Yellow-Lensed Sunglasses The New Must-Have Accessory

Whether the skies are cloudy or clear, Copenhagen’s street stylers know the secret to instantly elevate any look: a pair of statement sunglasses. At the most recent Autumn/Winter ‘25 edition of Copenhagen Fashion Week, despite the grey skies and drizzle that marked some days, sunglasses were in full force. Among the various sunglass-forward outfits spotted, one standout trend emerged: yellow-tinted lenses.
With a distinct retro vibe, amber-tinted glasses first gained popularity in the 1970s, complementing the boho-hippie, free-spirited fashion of the era. Often seen in oversized aviator shapes (think Johnny Depp in Fear and Loathing), round or square frames, these groovy glasses were worn by legends such as John Lennon and Elton John. Fast forward to the 1990s and early 2000s, and colored lenses—yellow included—made a major comeback, thanks to style icons like Gwen Stefani, Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey, and the Olsen twins, who added a fun twist to their outfits with a pair.
When it comes to canary-yellow sunglasses, one brand that immediately comes to mind is Alessandro Michele’s Gucci. His Spring/Summer ‘16 menswear and Resort ‘17 collections featured an array of vintage-inspired yellow-lensed sunglasses, bringing the trend back into the spotlight. This resurgence off the runway was fueled by stars like Bella Hadid, who embraced the style with flair.
While Gucci paired yellow lenses with whimsical embroidered suits, textured slim-cut trench coats, and bold patterned dresses, Copenhagen’s fashion-forward crowd put their own spin on this iconic accessory. On the cobblestone streets of Copenhagen, yellow-tinted shades were styled with preppy shirt-and-tie combos (another trend from AW25 CPHFW street style), billowing A-line skirts, edgy leather jackets, and cool faux fur coats. The beauty of yellow lenses lies in their versatility—whether they add a pop of color to an outfit or complement an eclectic ensemble, they elevate any look.
Who knows? Maybe the CPHFW attendees were hoping to inject a little artificial sunshine into the cold Nordic winter, or perhaps the world truly looks brighter through yellow lenses—surely, it must.
