Nordic-Baltic Alliance: Ukraine’s Victory Essential For Global Security

The Nordic and Baltic countries reaffirmed their strong support for Ukraine in its ongoing fight against Russia, pledging to increase their assistance and ensure Kyiv has the resources necessary to defend itself. In a joint statement released on Friday, the leaders of Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, and Sweden underscored their commitment to standing with Ukraine against what they described as Russia’s unjustified war of aggression.
"Ukraine must be able to prevail against Russia's war of aggression to ensure a just and lasting peace," the statement read, emphasizing that the conflict is not just about Ukraine’s sovereignty but also about the broader security of Europe and the transatlantic alliance.
The leaders warned that the outcome of the war will have far-reaching consequences, shaping the geopolitical landscape for years to come. "The outcome of the war will have fundamental and long-lasting effects on European and transatlantic security," they stated, stressing the importance of continued unity in confronting Russian aggression.
The eight nations have been among Ukraine’s most vocal supporters since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022. They have provided military aid, humanitarian assistance, and diplomatic backing, working closely with NATO and the European Union to coordinate sanctions against Moscow and increase pressure on the Kremlin.
As part of their renewed commitment, the Nordic and Baltic countries pledged to explore additional avenues for supporting Ukraine, including strengthening military aid, bolstering economic assistance, and ensuring that Russia faces consequences for its actions. The leaders also reiterated their belief that Ukraine's future lies within the European and transatlantic community, reaffirming their support for Ukraine’s eventual membership in the European Union and NATO.
Friday’s joint statement comes amid ongoing battles in eastern and southern Ukraine, where Ukrainian forces continue to resist Russian advances. Despite mounting challenges, Ukraine’s allies insist that continued Western support remains crucial in ensuring not only Ukraine’s survival but also the stability of the broader region.
The declaration by the Nordic and Baltic leaders signals a unified stance against Russian aggression, reinforcing their commitment to defending the principles of international law, sovereignty, and territorial integrity in the face of escalating threats.
